Remembering Friends of KSVT

Bob Nelson (1962 – 2025)

“I met Bob back when I first started college at Salem State (then) College, 1987. He was a staple at WMWM 91.7, the college radio station. Years later he was kind enough to record myself and my daughter hosting a radio show at her college, Mass College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, WJJW 91.1.  It was a wonderful gift both from my daughter and from Bob.  Dave and I were fortunate enough to appear on his last station; North of Boston Radio and it was a great time.  Dave met him through WMWM acquaintances and we all remained friends.  The King Serpent Variety Troupe remembers Bob and we will miss him greatly.”

Alex Robbat

“It is with a sad and heavy heart that I share the passing of my colleague and friend Alan Robbat owner of Pearl Street Station in Malden. As you all know Pearl Street has been a huge part of my life on both a business and personal level, thank you to Alan for your support and friendship. You will be greatly missed.”

WMWM 91.7

Salem State College Radio

It is with great sadness that I announce the end of an institution, WMWM 91.7 Salem State College Radio. As some of you may know, most if not all Massachusetts state colleges and universities have student run radio stations. One of my fondest memories is doing a radio show all through my college years at Salem State. WMWM has a direct and unique connect to King Serpent. It is how I met Dave Breen, indirectly. I met Dave’s brother Mike and we became good friends. We played together in bands throughout college and had an amazing time. Much of our rehearsal time was spent at the Breen house and I got to know Mike’s family, including Dave. It was a wonderful time in my life and now as a result, Dave and I have been performing together for the better part of a decade.

WMWM was a great place to be. It wasn’t work, really; it was a place to bond over music, production, and shameless self promoting of one’s band. To this day I am in touch with tons of great people I met at WMWM (the one good thing about social media!!) and now together we can remember and bond once again over our time at 91.7. Make sure to tune into North of Boston radio to tap into WMWM’s continuing legacy.
